Wollemi Capital has finalised its acquisition of substantially all of the business of MPower, a leading Australian developer of renewable energy and battery storage systems. The transaction strengthens Wollemi’s position as a long-term investor in scalable, distributed clean energy infrastructure.

The listed MPower Group agreed to sell its renewable energy and battery storage business to climate-focused investment firm Wollemi Energy Group for $19 million. Wollemi has committed to making a significant capital investment of more than $100 million to support MPower’s project pipeline, ensuring the company has the balance sheet strength to execute on growth ambitions.

Completion of the sale of certain assets remains pending subject to receipt of relevant regulatory approvals. Following receipt of those approvals title in those assets will also be transferred to Wollemi.

MPower Chief Executive Officer Nathan Wise said: “The scale of MPower’s future opportunity is very large but it has been challenging to secure project funding in a way that can deliver a sustainable and acceptable outcome to our shareholders.

“Wollemi’s strategic alignment, growth focus and energy transition expertise make it uniquely positioned to create future value by combining its investment expertise and financial resources with the skills, assets and opportunity that the MPower business brings.”

MPower will join Wollemi’s growing portfolio of emerging climate infrastructure assets, with a clear mandate to accelerate delivery of reliable, affordable, and decentralised energy projects across Australia.

Wollemi Co-Founder and Co-CEO Paul Hunyor has been appointed Chairman of MPower to guide its next phase of growth.

Paul Hunyor said: “MPower is a proven operator with a smart, executable strategy. It’s well placed to scale up capital deployment and become a major owner-operator of distributed energy. Whether behind the meter or connected to the grid, distributed energy infrastructure will play a big role in delivering cleaner, more resilient electricity for Australian energy consumers.”

Matt Kean, Director of Wollemi Capital, said: “We can’t afford to wait on big transmission builds. Distributed renewables assets like MPower’s are faster to deploy and critical to reaching Australia’s energy targets.”

MPower CEO Nathan Wise said: “This is a significant milestone for MPower. With Wollemi’s support, we’re now positioned to accelerate the rollout of reliable clean energy assets and become a next-generation renewable energy producer.”

Wollemi and MPower will work closely to expand the company’s pipeline of mid-scale solar and battery projects, supporting regional economic development and grid stability across the country.
