About Weipa Solar Farm
The 1.7MW capacity solar plant produces an average of 2800MW hours of electricity each year. The electricity from the 18,000 advanced First Solar photovoltaic modules that have been connected to Rio Tinto’s existing mini-grid will be purchased by Rio Tinto under a 15 year Power Purchase Agreement.
The solar project was the first of its size in Australia for a remote mining site.
